Dr. Ian Thompson, M.D.
Dr. Ian Abban Thompson was born in London, England. As a child his family immigrated to New York City where he spent his early years. He attended Harvard University as a National Merit Scholar obtaining his undergraduate degree in economics. He received his medical degree and masters in public health from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. During medical school, he was awarded a research fellowship to the NIH where he spent two years in the Laboratory of Clinical Immunology at the National Eye Institute in Bethesda MD as a NIH Medical Research Scholar. He then moved to Nashville, Tennessee for ophthalmology residency at Vanderbilt University. He subsequently completed a uveitis and medical retina fellowship at the National Eye Institute and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Wolfe Eye Clinic in West Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Thompson’s research findings have been published in international journals and he has presented his findings at national meetings. In his free time, he is an avid amateur musician and outdoor enthusiast.
